1. Who we are and what this covers
Torus Civils Limited provides comprehensive waste management solutions (including collection, transport, recycling and recovery, and where applicable hazardous waste management) and civil engineering / recycling plant and infrastructure delivery (including design coordination, enabling works, groundworks, structural installation, plant fit-out, commissioning support and ongoing ecognizeio).
This policy statement sets out our Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) commitments for all our activities, including project delivery at customer sites, transport movements, and any office or yard activities.
2. Our legal and governance commitment (UK)
We will meet our legal duties and applicable industry requirements. The following are key examples (not an exhaustive list) and will be applied as relevant to the work activity and jurisdiction:
· Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and supporting regulations.
· Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (risk assessment, arrangements, competence).
· Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) for construction and civils activities.
· Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR).
· Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH).
· Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), where applicable.
· Work at Height Regulations 2005, Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and other task-specific legislation as applicable.
· Environmental Protection Act 1990, Duty of Care obligations and Environmental Permitting requirements where applicable.
· Relevant waste, transport and hazardous waste controls, including correct documentation and traceability where applicable (e.g., waste transfer notes and consignment notes).
We will also meet applicable client, principal contractor and site rules where these exceed minimum legal requirements, provided they are reasonably practicable and do not conflict with statutory duties.
3. Safety and health – our non-negotiables
We are committed to preventing injury and ill health and providing safe and healthy working conditions. So far as is reasonably practicable, we will:
· Provide leadership and accountability for SHEQ performance at all levels.
· Identify hazards, assess risks and implement effective controls through suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
· Plan and manage construction work safely in line with CDM principles, including competent appointments, clear roles and effective site coordination.
· Ensure competence through training, supervision and ecognizeion, including for plant operations, lifting operations and hazardous materials handling.
· Consult and communicate with workers and contractors on health and safety matters, encouraging reporting of hazards, near misses and improvement suggestions.
· Maintain safe plant, vehicles and equipment, ensuring inspection, maintenance and statutory examinations are completed and recorded.
· Control occupational health risks relevant to our work, including dust/silica, noise, vibration, manual handling, chemicals, fatigue and vehicle movements.
· Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence, including meeting reporting duties where applicable.
· Manage emergencies with proportionate arrangements appropriate to the site and activity (e.g., first aid, fire, spill response and traffic management).
4. Environment – preventing pollution and improving performance
We ecognize that our work can affect the environment, particularly through waste handling, transport movements, fuel and energy use, noise and dust, spill risk and material use. We will:
· Prevent pollution and protect the environment by controlling emissions, dust, noise, run-off and spill risks.
· Comply with environmental and waste controls relevant to our operations and customer sites, including documentation and traceability where applicable.
· Promote the waste hierarchy (prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery) and support customers to improve recycling and landfill diversion where feasible.
· Select responsible suppliers and partners using due diligence and auditing proportionate to risk, including where third-party facilities or subcontract transport are used.
· Promote efficient resource use, including fuel and energy efficiency and responsible procurement where reasonably practicable.
5. Quality – delivering what we promised, every time
We commit to delivering consistent, high-quality services and project outcomes. We will:
· Agree requirements clearly before work starts, including scope, specifications, programme, responsibilities and interfaces.
· Use controlled methods of work, including planning, RAMS, inspections and test plans where applicable, and verification of critical stages.
· Manage changes to scope, design or sequence through documented change control to prevent defects, rework or unsafe shortcuts.
· Use competent suppliers and verify that materials and equipment meet specification and are fit for purpose.
· Measure performance and learn from non-conformances, customer feedback and internal checks to drive continual improvement.
6. Working with customers, communities and contractors
We will engage with customers and affected stakeholders to reduce disruption and manage impacts, including traffic, noise, dust, access constraints and safety interfaces on operational sites.
All contractors and suppliers working for or on behalf of Torus Civils Limited must:
· Follow applicable site rules and RAMS (or equivalent accepted standards).
· Provide evidence of competence, insurances and statutory certifications where required.
· Cooperate on risk management, coordination and incident reporting.
· Comply with applicable legal and client requirements.
7. Monitoring, assurance and review
To make this policy effective we will maintain arrangements for setting SHEQ objectives and targets, monitoring performance (inspections, audits and KPI reviews), corrective action and continual improvement, and periodic management review.
We will review and update this policy at least annually, and sooner if there are material changes to our operations, significant incidents, or changes to legal requirements.
